And I'm also kinda hoping SPAZ3 would be a prequel, focusing on Don's story.

Lets not forget... Don lost to the zombies and became their pawn. Most people don't generally like having a sad ending, Japanese people aside that is. For some reason almost half of their stuff has sad endings n shit, depressing as hell country if not for all that tentacle rape going on. They love them tentacles and other weird sex shit.

Huh, an interesting thought :) Though we don't know if SPAZ2 won't be like that yet ;)

The devs already mentioned that SPAZ 2 will occur in the span of a few years after the end of SPAZ1

@Viroman: Fix your quote! :P

Actually, the devs already said that it would be a sequel, several years after the events in SPAZ 1 or something like that.

i know this could be a foolish question but, will we ever see a full 3D SPAZ game?, i dont mind the original current concepts of SPAZ I and SPAZ II, but it would be cool to see a full 3D SPAZ game, something akin to Homeworld

I must point out that Homeworld is an RTS game, not a shoot-em-up.

*Suddenly wants a fully immmersive Homeworld game where you take direct control of the Mothership or a Battlecruiser*

yeah but if you analize the two games you will notice several similarities:

1. the game is centered around the mothership

2. all ships are built from the mothership itself (and some capital ships that serve as mobile factories too)

3. all the gameplay is in space, without stations to be seen. (this doesnt happen in SPAZ but 90% of the gameplay is far from them)

4. you can customize the ships components (even the mothership, or that's what i've heard)

oh and homeworld cataclysm had its own version of the zombies o_o....but anyways.

the point i want to give is that, a 3D game of SPAZ could be achieved, and im looking forward to see something like that in the future.

That's like saying that System Shock 2 is like Starcraft:

1. In both games you fight against an organic blob monster
2. Both feature guns!
3. Both games have a blue energy sword thingamajig
And so on, my point being that SPAZ and Homeworld are different genres

I'm excited for SPAZ 2, but I'm a bit concerned about if there will be a leveling system in it like the one in SPAZ 1?

I've replayed SPAZ 1 about at least a half dozen times, but past the first playthrough, the levelling system was more in the way of having fun, than actually contributing to my enjoyment of the game. It had me focused on grinding the upgrades to get higher damage numbers than my enemies, than actually focusing on the fun of combat and the tactical action, when everything hinges on the difference on some arbitrary number.

If you're too low level, no amount of tactics and skill will have any use when your opponents shields charge up faster than you can deal damage on it, even if you're using the appropriate shield killing weapon.

What I'd rather like to see is no leveling system at all. While I'm against one, you could still have a progression system, but it would be based on gathering actual equipment, like new ships and new modules by salvaging your disabled opponents. To get stuff, you'd must not destroy the ships, but disable them in any non-lethal way, like marines, EMP, forcing them to surrender or anything else of that type.

Well, I kind of like that idea reactorcore, but I would say that it would probably be simpler if you could also get stuff from ships by blowing em up, but less so if you took the other routes. So:

Blow up the ship: Get some good stuff
Capture the ship in some way: Get the most good stuff

This way, you would promote both styles of play. The one who likes to blow things up, and the one that likes to use tactics.

So, instead of having a tech tree that unlocks items, would you like to be able to equip any item at any time? Perhaps making better items harder to find?

Make enemy ships have the tenacity to self-destruct like you can do to yours if its going to get taken over. Not all will or can self-destruct. If they are too badly damaged they might not be capable of self-destruct. So its a delicate balance... Beat the snot out of them but, don't kill them.... and then take them over.

Yes thats fine too, althought styles of play is not something that is designed into a game, but something players find for themselves personally from what the game offers.

It really depends on what type of system equipment has in Spaz 2, but if its exactly like in Spaz 1, using the existing blackbox system, blowing up the ship would only yield fragments of the blueprints, where as disabling or forced surrender would yield in getting the equipment intact and give it to you for usage instantly.

Unless they know they are screwed and are desperately destroying things and erasing data.

The reason I bring up play styles reactorcore is that if you HAVE to capture a ship to get blueprints, then you are forcing a particular playstyle on the players. What if you are a player (like myself or many others) that like to see ships blow up. By forcing us to capture a ship, it penalizes us for playing the game the way we want to.

That is also why I suggested the modification to your idea. I do agree that you should get the best rewards for capturing, or forcing a surrender of a ship. However, I don't want them to remove the ability to get stuff from just blowing em up. Probably also why I don't use Crew Weapons (though that's probably because what the Crew can steal in SPAZ 1 isn't all that great).

Although you are also right that certain playstyles aren't built into a game. However, I would say that building in certain restrictions prevents certain play styles from occuring. Would we be able to adapt, probably. Though, as that was the way of doing things for SPAZ 1, it would kind of screw over the fanbase that loves that part. But I would definitely say that the whole capturing mechanic and crew used as a weapon should definitely be heavily improved on (as it was kind of a tacked on feature; correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the whole "stealing data" part was an added feature in a patch)

Ah right. Guess I've been busy and forgot about this section. hehe.

So ya did settle on Unity. A fair choice. Should make the multiple target platforms a lot easier to swing.
Keep up the good work :3

I saw him on another forum, believe it or not. But that was a while back already. More than half a year, I'm sure.

Sorry, Missed the spam bot flood. I'll setup email notification for reports to make sure I see that sort of thing from now on ^.^

It's easy to get distracted and engrossed with other projects and turn a blind eye to old ones :p

The paper cut, well. Cluts. ;)

That'll only be necessary when I'm away. Which is probably going to be for 8 hours a day soon because I'm starting University.
