Hi Everyone,

So the Mac version is up and running on Steam. We are doing some compatibility testing right now, but we are hoping that will be done very quickly.

In the mean time, we would like to reach out to some Mac press a bit early to see if we can generate some buzz.

I am quite the Mac noob and was hoping for a little help in this regard. Who would you recommend we contact?

Thanks very much as always,

Blorfy

*From the steam thread* :P
(So no need to reply me on both threads ;) )

I'm not exactly a Mac guy.
Hell! I'm a downright PC/windows person!

But anyway. maybe you could contact Macworld.
Cause whenever I hear them Mac people talk mac sites that one pops up often enough.
Also has a game section. :)

And Inside Mac Games also comes up on top of my Google Fu's.

Otherwise. Go check the Steam forum Mac section.

Well. That's All I can help with regarding Mac news stuff.

Hell yeah ! That's the kind of news I was expecting...

Well, Steam is already a VERY good marketing tool. If Spaz already show there on the new Mac release, players on Mac will know... That's for sure. There are also other distributors where I get my Mac games. The one I use is Deliver2Mac. They have, weirdly, games native for Mac that are not on Steam, like the expansions pack for Hearts of Iron 3, or the Settlers 7...

Now on the pure Marketing side, if you can manage to get it on the app store, as many games start to do, that would also be awesome for the mac people.

For the websites, those I check frequently are mainly french websites, so I won't give any advice there, unless you want them. But it's localized in french...

But hell yeah ! Can I download already from Steam ? Argghhhh !!! Can't wait !

Thanks

While the others have touched on the Mac only sites, it won't hurt if you send it to general gaming sites. Going Steamplay in general is still pretty big news after the fact due to it's rarity. If you can get somebody like Joystiq to give you a PSA that would help massively. Indiegames.com would probably give you a quick write up. They seem to have a "If it's indie, write it up" policy. Plenty of Macs go to these general sites.

Getting a line item in the new for Steam RSS feed would be useful. A lot of the time when something goes Steamplay, it is done silently much to everyone's annoyance. A news pop-up is great, but might be expensive, it wouldn't know.

I have been waiting very eagerly for this!

95% of Mac users, like said in earlier posts, use general gaming sites. We do not exclusively use mac gaming forums and sites because those are ghost towns. The thing is, getting hype for a release of a mac port is difficult. I feel like much of SPAZ's hype came from youtube videos like Totalbiscuit's first impression video, even if I'm not fond of the guy. Like the last two posters recommended, steam is probably your best shot. Hop on the steam summer sale bandwagon and you're ensured lots of sales, including window users.

I would also suggest using the "humble indie bundle" to help spread awareness of your game. Latest one just finished so they will be working on the next one. Only thing to keep in mind is that you'd need to remove any DRM (it's not like it wasn't instantly cracked anyways). I think SPAZ would fit it perfectly. I generally spend $10-$20 on a bundle offering. There are also other game bundles out there, but the HIB is the biggest. If you are interested in others, I can track some down for you.
