Hi Guys,

We just wanted to give a heads up that now that the bounty hunter patch is out, and seems to be working relativity well for people, Richard and I are going to slow down a bit for a couple of months for a rest. We will still be checking the board regularly and our email as well, but we will be trying to slow it down and catch our breath. We want to have full energy and creativity reserves for out next project. :)

We want to thank you all for being so awesome and helping make SPAZ what it has become. We plan to continue to support SPAZ as well, we mostly just need to fight off the burnout monster now.

Have a great day everyone, and please know how much we appreciate you all!

Blorfy/Richard

And please know how much we appreciate you two. :)

Have a good "break." (Which I'm guessing consists of working sane hours as opposed to round the clock? ;) Hopefully there are some actual off days in there too.)

*months*? I thought we were pretty easy-going here in Europe with about 1 month a year off, but months plural? :-o Clearly I need to get into the indie-game-dev scene. :-D

I was jesting (hence the smileys). Personally I've done the opposite - far too much time off (aka unemployment) and then got a job and never took any leave until I was forced to. :)

Ahh it is hard to tell on the interwebz. We always want to serve the fans and make the game better. We are both pretty punchy and burnt out right now. Time for a little time away from the radiation box :)

Given what you guys have been through, I don't think anyone (decent) would complain about you guys taking a nice, long vacation. Take care.

I would definitely say it is well deserved, especially considering your overall responsiveness to issues with the game in general (orders of magnitude better than companies with a lot more resources). Seriously, SPAZ is one of the few games I get somewhat enthusiastic about, and it's mostly because you as the developers are excited about it and are not content just to create another among many "play and throwaway" games.

Before you start hibernating, I just like to ask, do you still intend to release the various .cs game files so we can begin breaking this wonderful game? Modding is pretty much my favorite thing to do, even more-so than playing a game, I'm just weird like that.

Yup, modding is on the way next. We are just taking a little break first because we know that once that is uncorked, there will be a LOT of questions and support to do :)

Thanks for the expansion and you guys definately deserve a break! Your communication with the community is something of a legend to me - I just wish other developers were like that too!

I hope you guys enjoy the time off. From the sound of things, it's well deserved. I really hope that your next project is just as successful, if not more so. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the fantastic game. In a sea of indie titles, it swims above the rest.

Might be wise to put up a seperate forum with a bunch of useful documents around the time the modding tools come out, that could take at least some of the heat off you. Smarter modders will figure it out without documentation soon enough, but having an idea of what does what would help immensely. Hell, just snapping out a ship's and a weapon's codeblocks and throwing on a bunch of comments, then posting them up on the forums is a good start.

In fact, if the forumcode supports subforums, what I'd do is make a modding forum, with the following subforums;

1) Tutorials & Help
This would hold pre-made tutorials (if any) and selections of the best community-made tutorials, whether it's coding a weapon or creating ship artwork.

2) Work-in-Progress Mods
For discussion on any large mods that are still underway.

3) Released Mods
Exactly what it sounds like.

People could use the main modding forum to discuss ideas, ask for help (be it art or code-wise), and maybe have a couple of threads used to archive concepts or ideas.

If subforums are out, then perhaps make it as a category just under the main SPAZ sections, with each part as its own forum.

Not to sleight Richard or Blorfy, but community interaction is actually very common (though still not 100%) for indie devs, at least the ones I've seen. Try some more indie games if you like it, support the indie devs! :-) It's just the AAA folks who are aloof from their customers.

Since this is PHPBB, subforums should be supported without any hacking required.
