So for your 'support' carrier... would maybe removing all the current slots on the carrier and changing it so that it has 4 drone bays, a single large cannon slot (not a turret), and 4 medium utility slots?

I like the look of all of them except the Small Ship. High crew cap sounds like it overlaps with the Turtle Head, although I understand the Turtle Head does not have a large enough mount to support Suicide Cannons. I still think the turret-ship idea to be good, maybe with an extra utility slot.

In any case, one Medium Shooter is considerably weaker than two Small Shooters, which would make that ship be very lacking in firepower compared to all Small and even most Tiny hulls.

When I use mass bombs I tend to attack my targets from opposite sides. This basically makes the Ai have a rough time evading the explosive droplets. You back that up with some ships using grav missiles, and there isn't' much you can't kill. This is why I'm a tad reluctant to make any bombs more powerful then they currently are. I haven't seen anyone mention this tactic yet, but it sure seems potent when I play. I was almost sure they would need a nerf after release.

Anyone else try this?

I do not understand the AI-mancy involved in actually pulling this off.

Indeed, considering the apparent complexity of the tactic, it seems underpowered compared to fire particle cannons at enemy ---> sweet sweet victory.

I still support a turreted rocket launcher design, like the raven rockets in Escape Velocity.

^ I really don't see why not. Could be very useful for torpedo lovers and make launchers in general more effective.

Talking about rockets and turrets...

why are rocket boosters require tech level 5? And why not having rockets on turrets?

I don't know, rocket turrets sound redundant in the case of normal missiles and maybe a bit OP with torps- Being able to reliably fire torps at least in the general direction of an enemy without needing to face them sounds like it would greatly lessen the big drawback of torps (poor course correction). I don't know, the impact they'd have on actually scoring hits with torps might be far less than I'm imagining, but it's just my $0.02

Frankly one of the main reasons I'd want that is to bolster turrets...that whole tree is rather...meh, giving (if I remember correctly) only 5 levels of faster tracking...that's it, nothing really...unique other than the later ability to get multiturrets...

I would love to see a 'Destroyer Turret' which is one that seperates a Huge into 5 Medium mounts XD

How about a combination turret? Equip each of say...3 medium turrets with a special turret that makes all three turrets fire a beam at a single point, combining them to fire what is effectively a large/huge gun (think death star).

That is... actually, a really interesting idea necavi. There would need to be some way of making it more effective than just separate lines of fire converging on a target, though, otherwise it just wouldn't be worth the effort. As for the turret tech tree, more levels would be good. There really doesn't seem to be much you can improve on turrets other than track speed, and the ability to improve it more than currently possible might be nice.

That's why I said deathstar, which had the multiple beams converging on a point, thus creating a larger beam (through magic (tm) as far as I can tell). Further turret level upgrades could possibly increase damage done by weapons in a turret? (With a default damage reduction for weapons placed in turrets) just to spice up the tree a little bit, as currently it is just so...basic, considering that every other tree gains many, many unique benefits.

Triple and double turret access are already fairly strong damage increases. At least on the kinds of turrets that can fit them.

True, but you DO sacrifice range doing so, some ships to kinda need the range granted by a larger beam/cannon weapon.

Ok then what about a double turret mount that splits a medium mount into two small mounts?

Also, even if you could have much higher turret turn rate speed that would nice.

I don't think we need to make turrets any stronger than they are. The Triple Mount already doubles the mount's damage potential.

I will have it noted that my idea was to DECREASE the damage done by turrets, then give that damage back to normal/slightly more than normal at say...level 10 turrets.

Also, this would likely be a bit hard to implement (not to mention overpowered) but I think that it would be really cool if the bounty hunters had a missile or something like that that disabled a random (or specific) system on the target's ship, definitely a useful ability for someone who hunts bounties for a living! (Whether they are being brought in dead or alive)

Just a thought XD, for those ships with medium slots... like a hammerhead (drool)

A Medium Double Mount Turret would actually be pretty nice. It would make taking levels in Turrets worth it earlier in the game... plus, from what I can tell medium double mounts already exist (Outposts and UTA bases have them, I believe). Of course, when one considers ships like the Hound with its pair of medium turrets...

I think we might need something for Shooter mounts as well.

Quad-Beam Laser Cannons... Split a Huge Slot into 4 Large Beams (LV 10 Beam Tech)
Quad Barrel Cannons... Split a Huge Slot into 4 Large Cannons (LV 10 Cannons Tech)

Why LV 10 Tech? So that those who specialize into one or the other gets the benefit. Also, for those who don't want to really invest points into turrets and use the Star Cruiser as their primary assault ship.

I think they should be a part of a new Turret Tech (Mounts Tech or whatever) rather than incorporated into the Weapons Tech as a free upgrade.

But you just said for shooter mounts not turret mounts... though a quad barrel cannon for a turret would be mighty nice too
