Hi Everyone.

The SPAZ launch has gone great, and we are profitable and things have begun to calm. This is just in time for me, since my wife will be delivering our second child tomorrow. This means that I will be in the hospital for 3 days and unavailable. I will also of course be spending time with the new baby and taking care of the wife, and our toddler son for the next couple weeks.

Richard will also be away from September 8-20 visiting family.

This will be our first real time away from SPAZ for a couple years, but we do plan to try to keep up on goings on. We will log in every day or 2 to make sure things are still ship shape. Our moderators will also be stepping up to help where they can, and some new mods may be appointed.

Once we get back in action, we plan to kick it into high gear and get a tuning patch based on user input out right away. Then we will delve into the Mac version and that list on the front end screen when you boot up.

Thanks again to the community for making SPAZ a success.

I really can't thank you enough for making this game! I'm glad you guys are finally getting some time off...even if some of that time off will likely be much more stressful than making SPAZ...

Congratulations on the new baby, and on making some vacation time.

It is unfortunate however, that you weren't able to get a patch out to address some of the more prevalent bugs before you both left. There are a good many things that unbalance the game (i.e. minefields), and/or make it less than you'd expect out of the box.

New games have a window post-launch wherein they are played heavily, and then most users shelve them. If you miss that window with patches that fix gameplay, you never get a chance to change the evaluation in the eyes of the users who played it and are done.

Phew,

Ok I am back online (part time for now) Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. The baby is healthy and I am tired :)

Scarlettmadness will get the moderators up soon, Richard is mostly offline until Sept 20th, and then we plan to begin a major development cycle again.

Everything should be ticking along as normal again soon :)

We plan to ninja in a quick tuning pass first, and then dig right into the items listed on the front end. Any of the nastier bugs will also get squished. So far we have not started the Mac port, so the PC version and adding content has our full attention.

pc focus is what i like to hear! haha iv never been a mac person, but then if you get the mac version sorted, then you have a larger player base. but youv already thought of that im sure :P keep up the good work, and remember,

GLHF! XD

I'm not sure that making a mac-specific version would result in a larger player base (despite all the Escape Velocity addicts out there (hi, guys, I'm one of you!)).

SPAZ runs fine in a virtual machine, so (if I may be brutally frank), your target audience for the port is MacOS users who are both poor and shy about pirating a copy of Windows 7 so that they can play SPAZ in a window. I'm not sure that there's tremendous crossover there, due to the general lack of love for Microsoft amongst Apple users. Of course, maybe I'm only speaking for the technophiles, but it seems to me that anyone with a strongly-defined platform allegiance is probably usually going to also be something of a technophile.

Don't mistake me for an Apple-hater; I'm both a *nix sysadmin and an APPLE ][ owner. :)

The above comment got me annoyed enough to register.

Running virtual machines is never the optimal solution. They crash more often, produce non-fixable bugs, massively increase the resource footprint, which means less people would be able to run the game. Native is always preferred over even the best wrapper. The next logical step to take this is to just boot in to Windows, which is a solution of last resort. It's the equivalent of buying an airplane to drive down the highway. It works, but it not why you brought the plane in the first place.

I can personally guarantee than making a Mac version will increase the user base, at least by one more person. I am holding out for the Mac version and will be there day one. I am also sure that where ever else this game ends up at, the people will be as please as I will be.

Will we finally be able to customise the clockwork in the next update? That would be sweet!!

@ohhboy,

Making a native Mac version is a high priority for us, so rest assured, it is coming. :)

I try not to come to the forums, just to avoid spoilers.

Any chance of a ballpark figure as to when we might see the mac version?

I have heard some really great things about the Mac version, but have not gotten around to playing it yet. I like to play it in Cheap Las Vegas Hotels. Any word on the quality of it and if it's worth buying? Thanks. :)

There is still no mac version to speak of yet, but we're working on it. It will be identical to the PC version in every way. We don't play favorites ;)

So the Mac will also suffer from the Torque Engine limitations on single processors?

Unless the Mac is better at handling this than a PC, sadly yes. Torque does update the 2D engine from time to time, so there is hope they will resolve this some day, but we don't have any ability to fix this from our end. Next project we'll likely shop around for a new engine that is more in tune with modern PC's.
