Hi All,

Right now I am working on a name generator for specialists, and I would like to open this up to the community because it is quite fun.

Here is the idea. As specialists get better and better, their names get cooler and cooler. Names are constructed like this:

Prefix: Dr, Prof, Sgt. etc
First Name: Andrew Richard.... Zachary
Nickname: "The Mangler, Danger, Ricochet, Thriftstore... etc both cool and funny are good
Last Name: "Smith, Johnson, etc...
Suffix: Jr. Sr. II PhD...

So a common specialist has a name like: Joel Andersen

whereas a godlike (highest rated) version may be: Prof. Joel "The Mangler" Andersen DDS (Yes he is a dentist :) )

I have scoured the internets for first and last names in relative proportion to the sales ratio per country of SPAZ. So there is a little of everything in there. What I am really interested in is some good Nick names for the middle portion of the names.

Here is the current format.
$SPEC_Names_Nickname[%index++] = "Toothless";
$SPEC_Names_Nickname[%index++] = "The Alcoholic";
$SPEC_Names_Nickname[%index++] = "Smokescreen";
$SPEC_Names_Nickname[%index++] = "Greaseball";
$SPEC_Names_Nickname[%index++] = "Danger";
$SPEC_Names_Nickname[%index++] = "The Chemist";

If you feel like participating, just post some names in the reply and I will likely add them to the game.

The disclaimer here of course is that if you reply with a list of nicknames, you are providing us the right to use and distribute them for free.

I hope to read some good ones soon :)

I don't know why, but as soon as I saw specialists I immediately thought of incredibly smart people in lab coats with glasses( :geek: ) explaining to you how to manually transfer power from weapons to engines and then loop it back to shields or calculating your exact cloak strength while positioned in the shadow of a precisely sized fake asteroid. Thus, the nicknames that came to mind are along the lines of:

(The)
-Ruler of Results
-Numerate Nobleman
-Sir of Spreadsheets
-Prince of Processes
-Counting Count

Code:
$SPEC_Names_Nickname[%index++] = "The Ruler of Results";
$SPEC_Names_Nickname[%index++] = "The Numerate Nobleman";
$SPEC_Names_Nickname[%index++] = "The Sir of Spreadsheets";
$SPEC_Names_Nickname[%index++] = "The Prince of Processes";
$SPEC_Names_Nickname[%index++] = "The Counting Count";

Also this would be a great place for some references! I'm picturing the "Number 2" and "The Doctor" nicknames :mrgreen:

Must have:

$SPEC_Names_Nickname[%index++] = "The Ferret";

Now that that's out of the way, I might try to think up some more later ;)

I recommend perusing the subpages of http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... ReallyFast. I'm sure you'll be able to find plenty of good names there.

[The] Rez Roy
The Gimper
Nefarious
Dagger

The Sentry
The Great (too obvious?)
The Urchin
Uncanny
[The] Zealot (or Zealous)

Truth be told, most of these names could come with the prefix "The"

Titles/Prefixes;

Military
Private
PFC
Corporal
Sergeant
Sergeant Major/Warrant Officer
Lieutenant
Captain
Major/Commandant
Lt. Colonel/Commander
Colonel
Brigadier/Commodore
General/Admiral
Marshal/Field Marshal/Admiral of the Fleet

I imagine Specialists using Military titles would be ex-UTA professionals that defected to your fleet. It'd be a nice touch if their rank actually reflected their experience. For example, they start out as a humble Private or Airman, but they gradually increase in titles, passing through Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and so on, maybe gaining a nickname or callsign as they progress too.

~~

Nobility
Emperor/Empress
King/Queen
Viceroy/Vicereine
Archduke/Archduchess
Grand Duke/Grand Duchess
Grand Prince/Grand Princess
Duke/Duchess
Prince/Princess
Marquess/Marchioness
Marquis/Marquise
Count/Earl/Countess
Viscount/Viscountess
Baron/Baroness
Baronet/Baronetess
Knight/Dame
Lord/Lady

These could be genuine 'royalty', or just soldiers who assume royal titles and attitudes, perhaps due to mental problems. Duke Nukem is a classic example of a soldier with a partially royal name.

I only can think one that wasn't posted already.

"Stardust"

I think it's pretty ironic in a space shooter where things go poof.

I also hope 'Stella' is included.
It would been awesome to have the possibility recruiting Stella 'Stardust' Whatever. As I use that nick in many MMO. :D

Edit:
@Blorfy
Thank you. 1/5000, not bad. Now I have (yet another)reason to play the game for a VERY long time.

@MoliskScout
Stella just added to first names, and Stardust to nicknames.

So it may be possible to see it in your game if you are very lucky (1/5000 chance). Someone somewhere will see it anyhow.

pure awesomeness from 90's

It will be damn fun trying to spot all the names posted here when they get implemented to the game. Gotta catch 'em all!
