Rogue Mining Ops seem like a reasonable idea from a game design perspective- a non-farmable Rez source that you can voluntarily escalate to combat for bigger rewards. However, if you choose not to start a fight they're simply boring and grind-y. You spend a bunch of time flying to and firing at purple asteroids over and over again until they're all gone or- as I'm finding the case- you simply quit out of boredom.

I'd like to see a minor quality of life enhancement to them: When you encounter them, you're given the choice to participate in the mining op or raid crates. If you pick the former, the event simply goes away and the player is passed a modest quantity of Rez as a payoff. If you pick the latter, you're dumped into the mining op encounter exactly as it currently works, except that there's no purple asteroids and stealing crates is the only way to get Rez- probably with a Rez-per-crate boost to make up for the lack of asteroids.

This leaves the feature intact with almost exactly the same outcomes and decisions, but doesn't force a player who doesn't feel up to the fight to sit through a bunch of tedium to get the Rez.

Tangentially, it seems kind of weird that the Rez gained from crates is dwarfed by the Rez gained from asteroids. I can pull in a crate and get 25 Rez and then lose some time fighting and potentially lose a couple hundred scrap worth of strike craft in the process, or just hit any of the numerous Rez asteroids in the area risk-free and get a lot more than 25 Rez per asteroid.

I suppose the intent could be that stealing crates isn't about Rez acquisition but is instead about starting a fight, but you don't really get a whole lot for killing the miners.

It's only tedious because you choose to stay there. It's not really a mission, as much as it is an area with stuff happening. If you want to slowly take apart roids for a small return of Rez, you can do so. If you want to rob the already mined Rez from creates in a hurry, then you're in for a fight. You're free to leave this encounter as long as you are not in direct combat, but it's not a type of encounter you "win". We have plenty of those.
