Rather than having a bunch of seperate ship requests all over the place, I was thinking - why not make a central 'archive' for ship requests?

The idea is simple; fill in a form with the 'ideal' specs, and maybe some base (or even completed!) artwork. That way those who have the hang of scripting can work with artistically-inclined users to finish a ship.

So, here's a template;

Quote:
Name:
Size: [what it's called, or alternate names, eg; Eagle, or Eagle/Buzzard, etc.]
Role: [the ship's purpose - mining, bomber, etc.]
Description:
[similar to the ingame info about current ships - fluff, etc.]

Specs:
[fill in specs here, either in SPAZ terms, or vaguer - "high mass, high maneuverability, low crew capacity", etc.]

Loadout:
[info on loadout spaces here, eg; "1x huge turret, 2x large turret, 5x medium booster"]

Notes:
[misc notes on stuff like doodad placement]

Artwork:
[if any, link here, or a description of the ship appearance]


So, for example;

Name: Battlecruiser/Destroyer
Size: Large
Role: Fast Assault (Turreted)
Description:
Designed by UTA shipwrights to replace the aging Right Hook, the Battlecruiser/Destroyer borrows from ancient naval ships in its slim, multiturreted design that make it ideal for broadside or frontal assaults. The Battlecruiser/Destroyer is fast and relatively agile so that it can keep up with fleeing criminals and faster UTA forces, but has poor cargo capacity and middling crew capacity. Its detractors claim it's an ineffectual hybrid of the Star Cruiser and Hammerhead that was shrunk down. Pirates lucky enough to 'acquire' these ships have discovered that, with their forward turrets 'upgraded' into Fixed Mounts, they can be excellent hit-and-run raiders, too.

Specs:
Very poor cargo capacity, mid-low crew capacity, good speed/maneuverability, moderate-high mass, above-average hull strength, above-average rez cost.

Loadout:
3xLarge Turret (centerline, two front/one rear)
2+xSmall Turret (along the sides, similar to Star Cruiser mini-turrets)
1xMedium Utility Slot (center)
2xSmall Utility Slot (both behind small turrets, or one each at front/rear)

Notes:
Stick a radar on somewhere between the middle and rear turrets.

Artwork:
None, but look at any existing naval warships (battleships in particular) for inspiration when creating artwork. It should be fairly sleek and menacing, since it's meant to be a new UTA design, and have suitably beefy engines to match the high speed and maneuverability specs.

Well, it was just an example -- but that's why you could put down multiple names. Besides, nobody's going to stop you if you make the Starcraft Battlecruiser and call it the Battlecruiser even if someone else has already made a ship that uses that name... although I'm sure it'll lead to a little confusion.

Description:
Another relatively new high-tech design from UTA shipwrights, the Interceptor/Avenger is believed to be an offshoot of the Bounty Hunter Raven hull, albeit heavily modified. The Interceptor/Avenger uses a pair of fixed guns and wing-mounted missile launchers much like ancient air superiority fighters (which its hull mimics) making it a capable combatant at all ranges. The Interceptor/Avenger is quite fragile compared to other combat-oriented ships such as the Hound or Saucer, and so must use its superior speed and maneuverability to avoid being seriously damaged. Best used for strafing runs.

Specs:
Very poor cargo capacity, very low crew capacity, very good speed/maneuverability, low mass, below-average hull strength, high rez cost.

Loadout:
2xMedium/Small Beam/Cannon
4xSmall/Medium Missile Launcher
1xSmall/Medium Utility

Notes:
The guns are close together near the nose, whilst the missile points are quite spread out with two of the four points per wing. A common loadout could use double particle cannons, two standard/blue missiles (outer wingpoints), and two SRMS (innerwingpoints), using the utility slot for a missile booster, scanner, or PD laser.

Artwork:
None. Think what a mashup of the BH Raven and modern-day air superiority/stealth fighters (F-22, PAK FA, etc.) might look like, and you probably have the Interceptor. Sleek, fast, maneuverable... fragile.

Brought into this universe through some temporal rift, the USS Galaxy has found itself trapped in this reality. The crew has had to replace several of the primary systems but it's still a force to be reckoned with.

Specs:
Crew capacity: 1,000
Cargo capacity: 1,500
Hull mass: medium-high
Speed/Maneuverability: medium to medium-high
Shield strength: medium-high to high
Hull strength: medium-high
Rez cost: certainly well above average, no less than 3,000 to try to keep it balanced

Loadout:(These are just recommendations, any changes to help keep balanced are perfectly fine)
Launchers:
Huge: 2 (1 fore, 1 aft[fore launcher MUST be underneath saucer])
Turrets:
Huge: 6 (all placed on saucer section)
Large: 2 (aft between nacelles)
Utilities:
Huge: 6 (2 fore, 2 mid, 2 aft)
Large: 3 (around bridge)

Notes:
Nothing terribly fancy, but a number of recognizable patches made to the hull in a few places to give it the appearance that it's had a rough ride since getting here.

Artwork:
Two pictures included(wouldn't consider either to be finished at this point), still need a transparent background(s), one has marked locations for where mounts should be placed: turrets, modules, launchers and points for engines/thrusters(green marks aft, blue marks port/starboard, purple marks forward.)

File comment: This doesn't have the circles on it and still needs to have the white background made transparent.

File comment: The red circles are where the launchers are located. Fore launcher is under the saucer.
Yellow-orange circles are where "turrets" for the "phasers" could be located.
Pink circles are just my recommended points for utility modules.
Green circles are where the aft engines are, located over the impulse engines from the "real" ship.
Blue circles are where I would place the port and starboard thrusters.
The two fore Blue circles with the purple inside also house the forward thrusters.

Role: a Drone carrier with 2 turrets.
Description:After the success of the Raven the Civs cobbled this together from some Gyro pieces.
Its a drone carrier with some direct fire support.
Specs:Medium maneuverability, low cargo, medium crew.
Loadout: 2 medium Drone bays. 2 medium turrets.
Notes:It looks should be as if someone glued 4 Gyro's together without making it look like a zombie ship.
Artwork: like a round ship with its hardpoints sticking apart in all directions.


As an additional note.
Go wild on this one, make it look as a ship the Civs would use without making it utterly dependable on drones.

Once I get a hang of scripting and adding new stuff, I'm gonna work on this ASAP.
Already got a decent source for artwork/texture, gonna figure out balanced loadouts and misc details later on.

Looking for an ubership. Just something to run around in and have some fun.
Dont care what class ship, but would like it to be agile and have an abundance of huge
hardpoints for each weapon type, crew and cargo space are a plus also. Like i said, an Ubership.
Played through game already and just want to have some fun in an OP ship blowing stuff up.

If nothing else I'll take a crack at adding it once the 30 linkpoint limit is removed, but I'd rather not unless zombified and Civ/UTA versions were made, for the sake of gameplay.

Probably gonna need mounted collision though...

yay, a battlecruiser! Will it have tons of turrets to compensate for its low mobility?

And maybe a Protoss Carrier too! I'm thinking 4 drone bays, no offensive weapons?
