Hi.

I was curious after seeing a number of obvious spam posts and some less obvious bot posts that I was wondering if someone could tell me how to tell the difference between a bot and a person?

Obviously:
-> Its spam if its heavily offtopic, like kitchen appliances or escort services.

But, what if it is an actual person posting for the first time? How do you know if they are or aren't a bot?

And no, this isn't a bot post either. I'm real, come poke me if you need proof!
(DISCLAIMER: Poking Palandus may result in agonizing pain)

I think that you don't need to worry about being mistaken for a bot. You have the highest post count of the entire forum.

Yeah, obviously, it's gonna be a bot if they post in the SPAZ Q&A help forum, since that is for SPAZ Issues only and not for any offtopic Q&A, which... goes into the Offtopic subforum. And I just realized that you posted it here too. D:<
Usually those people also ask for help with unrelated services, often mentioning brand names. And then they never come back to read the answers or further explain their questions. Next time one of those posts, let me be the only one replying and I will ask them to elaborate. The bot proof will be that they never come back.

Another clue is a thread started by irrelevant issues by people carrying their own names as signatures. To be honest, nobody does that. Nobody.

So yeah. Imma go move this thread now.

Yah... I kinda figured out that there was an Offtopic Forum AFTER I posted it :)

Technically, Richard has a higher post count, though who is counting :)

Thanks for the clarification, EvilNinja. On a different note, when did you get moderator privileges?

I duno... someone else had a high post count before they got... removed, as well.

The number one clue is if the whole post looks awkward when you read it. I am not talking Prussian to English through bable fish translation awkward(although that is a good sign too), like if the logic is circular or in the same post it goes off topic.

The second clue is, if its posted in the proper location or not. If it passes first check and its posted in the wrong location you need to double check first sign.

The third clue is, THE FORCE! Sometimes I can feel something is wrong with a post. This can be so bad that it is the number one check and I need not go further.

The admins don't count because they've been here all along and, well, posting here is part of their job.

The mod thing happened when you were gone. I moved part of the discussion here afterwards. I think the original might have been in the main "SPAZ 2?" thread. I was made a mod to deal with incoming bots, and you were gone at the time, and I check these forums relatively often.
Funnily enough, there's been no bots here lately. They're all on holiday.
