Apparently "DDI Version" is "9Ex" and "Driver Model" is "WDDM 1.0"

Maybe I'm a little bit rusty with Nvidia cards, my last one broke on me half a year ago, but I think you're using an older version of your display driver or even the one windows came with. Could you try to look for the date of the driver under driver details or just update it to the latest Forceware? Just a suggestion but I think I remember that the version should be higher in numbers than the one you posted.

Hi. I have an problem with my resolution of 1920x1080 at 100Hz. When I start the game comes an error:

"Resolution too high! 1680x1050 max
opengldevice::setscreenmode
dwglcreatecontext failed to create an opengl rendering context"

If I change the desktop resolution to 1680x1050, comes the same error :-(

ATI Radeon HD 6800
Benq screen

Please Help me.

If you locate and delete this file ...

C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\MinMaxGames\SpacePiratesAndZombies\b_settings\spz_settings.cs

That will reset you to default to get you running again. Give your video card drivers an update. Let me know if you continue to have issues.

Running ATI/AMD HD 6850 with Catalyst 11.10 preview 2 drivers in Win7x64-bit.

If I don't change anything, it crashes the display driver entire and ATI/AMD has to recover the desktop. From seeing the RAGE/OpenGL problems, it looks like the ATIOGLXX.DLL included with this version is corrupt. I replace it with one I found online from 11.8 and the game runs now but it still crashes on exit, APPCRASH faulting OPENGL32.DLL.

I think it may be the Catalyst AI affecting SPAZ, causing it to crash on exit sooo...

I ran RadeonPro, created a custom profile for TorqueGameBuilder (dragged SpazGame.EXE) over and going to the ADVANCED tab, and UNCHECK:

Force triple-buffering (OpenGL)
Anistropic optimization
Trilinear optimization
Enable surface format optimization
texture filtering quality

...all of which I believe are enabled/disabled with Catalyst AI settings but are exposed when one uses a tool like RadeonPro.

I run and exit SPAZ, no crash!

Going to try 11.10preview 3 drivers now and then also enable one of those 5 at a time to see which is causing the exit-crash. Hope this helps somebody.

Update: 11.10 preview 3's ATIOGLXX.DLL is still corrupt. Had to replace with one from 11.9.

Was able to check back all 5 optimizations and force vsync in RadeonPro without crashing on exit anymore.

Same ...

"Resolution too high! 1680x1050 max
opengldevice::setscreenmode
dwglcreatecontext failed to create an opengl rendering context"

.... problem, first thought: changing my ati 4000 to a 6850er and not reinstalling the display drivers ( yeah i'm a lazy prick), but i also downloaded the ragefix

currently trying to replicate reich's workaround

btw: Mind if i point out that Rage in itself isn't only a crappy port, it even makes other games not run, that's just wonderful =P (yep, i know, id didn't made the rage fixes, but still)

Hm, my first post, so ... if i'm judging from hours played, Game of the Year =] (and my sincere apologies for my "clearly-not-native" grammar)

edit: fixed my Problem

first (not sure if this helped at all, because it seemed not to work, but i include it anyways, and i didn't need to check dx troublemode)
viewtopic.php?p=12389#p12389

than i installed the catalyst 11.10 beta (driver/fix/whatever?) http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDCata ... river.aspx

runs smoothly again

Ahh great to hear, the newer catalyst driver will fix it. That is a big relief.

Hello all, first post here.

I have been playing away on SPAZ since 1.006, and only just hit this problem a couple of nights ago after upgrading to the 11.10 preview drivers in preparation for playing BF3 over the weekend.

From what I have seen online, including forums here and for Rage, there are OpenGL driver issues with this version of Catalyst.

I managed to get around this issue by copying an old version of atioglxx.dll from c:\Windows\System32\DriverStore to c:\Windows\SysWOW64.

I have an AMD 6000 series video card. This seems to be common for everyone with this issue.

Congratulations for MinMax on a great game :)

i give up and will return to this game in a few months but i can't quit without spazgame.exe/torquegamebuilder.exe faulting (appcrash) opengl32.dll due to my o.c.d not wanting it to crash upon exiting.

win7x64, ati radeon catalyst 11.10.
steam v1.011 of the game.

dx compat mode won't quit properly and the spazgame.exe process hangs, sitting there stealing mouse until i end the process in task manager.

will check back in a few months.

windowed mode, fullscreen, full detail, no detail, win98 compat sittings (right-click properties) etc. makes no difference. something about how the torquegamebuilder engine that powers spaz handles shutting down causes things to crash 99.99% of the time. the spaz launcher and the game both crash on exit faulting opengl.dll -- if it's in window mode you can see the background go gray and stop responding as the appcrash dialog appears in the foreground.

redownloaded from steam, verified integrity etc.

no overclocking anywhere on my system, other games work fine (2tb+ steam folder) quad core i5-2400 chip. tried setting affinity etc. no change.

Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: SpazGame.exe

Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 0000416c
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1

anyone have another version of opengl32.dll that works for them without crashing on exit of game?

catalyst 11.11 came out 24 hours ago. still appcrash on exit. dx compat doesn't hang anymore but steam.dll_unloaded is the source of the appcrash. hmm.

restarted and it's working now. hoodathunk. maybe files in use by windows.

weird.

although ati drivers + opengl doesn't seem to be a good fit. some recent opengl extensions post catalyst 10.4 seem to have broken older games though i think spaz uses the newer ones. one guy/website doing an admirable job of providing downloads of old 32-bit and 64-bit dlls and documenting engine breakages with each driver revision: http://www.kn00tcn.net/site/tag/drivers/

in any case, hallelujah.

18929664 size, date 4/6/2010
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\space pirates and zombies

Hey I got this game, hoping it would be a fun, basic, time-consuming I could run on my laptop which I really only use for work/school related activities.

It seems SPAZ may not be what I thought it was.

I cannot speak for the quality of the game, only that it doesn't seem to run on my laptop. But perhaps I am wrong, perhaps there is a solution.

When I attempt to open the game from steam, I get a black window (an issue which other people have had, but whose solutions I do not fully understand/am unable to replicate). My guess is it is some menu screen, as when I move the mouse I hear dings, as if I were scrolling over options. But clicking any of these either yields no results, or cause the program to stop responding.

As I've said, it is by no means a gaming laptop, but I thought it met the minimum requirments. It has 2 gb RAM, an intel 965 chipset integrated graphics card, which I gather has aprox. 358MB capacity. The laptops resolution is 1024x768: apparently the lowest acceptable setting.

Is my machine the problem, or can I troubleshoot this problem and enjoy this game?

Hmm, I think that openGL may not be working for you. There should be a file called console.log wherever your SpazGame.exe file is located. A look at that could help. If you update your video card drivers, OpenGL should be included and updates as well.

Hmm, this console.log file is VERY unhappy. The openGL on your card is not speaking to the game properly. So you are sure that you have the latest drivers for the Intel 965/963 Graphics Media Accelerator? Also can you send a DXDiag so we can get an idea of your machine's specifications. It may not be enough to run the game. I have never seen this error before.

Checking the intel website, I am certain I have the most up to date graphics driver for my chip.

Here is the dxdiag log:

Ok one problem I see is the processor on the laptop is 1.8ghz. This won't cause the issue you are seeing with the gfx, but late game, it will not be able to keep up adequately with the action unfortunately. Early game it should be fine though, so there is lots of killing to be had.

The real problem is this: Error: 'Reported Maximum Hardware Texture Size is invalid!' (11) It is spammed all over the console log you sent earlier. THe engine can't make heads or tails of your video card for whatever reason. What we can try though it directX compatibility mode as a test. I am going to send you a settings file that will hopefully get you in the right mode (the launcher screen will still be black, but the launch button is bottom right and big. I will send a screenshot of that too)

Just getting these things together. Will post them in a bit.

Ok, in this directory:
C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\MinMaxGames\SpacePiratesAndZombies\b_settings

Place the file spz_settings.cs (delete any files already in there) (you will need to unzip file first)
If the directory structure above does not exist, then create it (YOUR_USERNAME) should be whatever you are logged into the computer as.

Here is a picture of the launcher window. If you are feeling brave, you can simply click the continue button after clicking the checkbox for DirectX compatibility mode. This will set things up for you. Listening for the beeps as you move the cursor around will tell you when you are in the right location.
