This is not a confirmed fix, but it is something we would like to try.

If you start up the game and you are getting a message like:
"Analog out of range" (from game)
or
"input not supported" (from monitor)

Please give this a try, and let us know if this solved your issue or not.

Win XP: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\MinMaxGames\SpacePiratesAndZombies\
Win 7: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\MinMaxGames\SpacePiratesAndZombies\
Vista: Unsure but should be easy enough to find. (anyone have vista and can advise?)

Hopefully you can find the following directory path, and if not, please construct it.

At the end of that path create a directory called: b_settings

Within that new b_settings directory, add this file: (unzip it first)
http://spacepiratesandzombies.com/freeFiles/spz_settings.zip

What that will do is give you a real settings file to play with. Try to run the game now.

If the problem persists,

This file will set you to full screen. If you are still having an issue, open up the file and change. fullscreen = "1"; to fullscreen = "0"; (This is only ok if your Y resolution is > 768 on desktop)

Please also let us know if these instructions are a little hard to understand.

I tried starting the game on my netbook and got a similar error, I don't honestly know if it will even run on the netbook, but I wanted to give it a shot and cant get past the splash screen. I tried the fix and it didn't seem to work for me so either I'm doing it wrong or perhaps there is something else, for instance I noticed no options to change the renderer to OpenGL could that have any affect?

Also....

As a side note most netbooks top out at a resolution of 1024 x 600.

Did I not read somewhere that 1024x768 was the lowest usable rez, so 1024x600 doesnt meet it?

Is there no way you could add more resolutions? I like to record my videos in 720p :(

Actually 1024x768 is as small as the gui can go and still fit on screen. We are kind of stuck there. :(

I'm sad  it doesn't work for me.

I created the folders (from MinMaxGames down, but it seems to have worked because something put that old legacy XML file in there too and it wasn't me!) and changed the settings ("1024 768 32" and fullscreen 0 as suggested) but I'm still getting horizontal frequency a few Hz above what my monitor supports (something like 75, when it can handle only 73)

I had this issue with Super Meat Boy too, can't remember how I fixed that...

The instructions say that if the folder isn't there you have to create it the path to it.

It wasn't there when I fixed it. I created the folder path then deposited the settings file.

The Demo's folder is b_settings_d, instead of b_settings

Otherwise the same steps should work.

Suggested solution is not working for me.

SPAZ was working fine for 2 days. Changed to windowed mode, and since then unable to play. No matter how many times I uninstall it.

Console gives OpenGLDevice::setScreenMode -- can't switch to resolution larger than desktop in windowed mode!
OpenGLDevice::setScreenMode -- can't go smaller than 640x480!

B_settings folder never existed. Tried creating it with the file specified in topic for the settings, but it is not changing anything.

Demo worked for me. I bought the game, and then it wasn't working anymore.

EDIT: ALSO, have the game installed through Impulse. THe pathing you are specifying is completely different :

C:\Program Files (x86)\Indie Games\Space Pirates and Zombies\Spaz ---> INSTALLED VIA IMPULSE

Oh the path to your settings folder is in your application data area on your machine. Windows only likes programs to write data there. Your settings are persistent. If you can find and delete the settings folder, your game will go back to full screen mode and work.

These directories must exist on your machine. Are you running Vista? If so we need to figure out the path there, but you could also do a search on your hard drive for: MinMax and that should point you right to the path.

Win XP: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\MinMaxGames\SpacePiratesAndZombies\
Win 7: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\MinMaxGames\SpacePiratesAndZombies\
Vista: Unsure but should be easy enough to find. (anyone have vista and can advise?)

Got the game from impulse also, but in impulse I change the default install folder to be in my games folder instead of the default \program files(x86).
My games are on the d drive
so I changed the default folder to D:\Games

The game installed in d:\games\space pirates and zombies\

this worked for me, maybe you can try that.

On a side note thanks for another addictive game!! Keep it up guys.

It seems to like The real good games lately are indie games!!

Didn't work for me. Pathing was correct, I added the folder and unzipped the file, still no go; so I adjusted my resolution and set fullscreen to 0; STILL no go.

Hmm, We are putting out a patch later this week. It provides up front video selection. That may resolve this issue for you. Stay tuned.

Hi,

The screen is a Difusion CRT (CM1772FS if you really care!)

Display is NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS currently displaying 1280x1024-32 at 60 Hz

Drivers are version 8.17.12.6099.

Apparently "DDI Version" is "9Ex" and "Driver Model" is "WDDM 1.0"

I just tried the latest beta download but no luck :(

Again, am on Windows 7 Pro. I was one of the guys who got Input out of Range.

Will try again in a week's time and see whether this upfront video mode selection works.

Thanks,

Mike
