Hi Guys,

This file makes the render system do less work and therefore should give a little more CPU headroom. If you are having some extreme FPS issues, this may help.

UnZip and replace radar.cs.dso in the game/gamescripts directory

Also note: You will need to shutdown and restart SPAZ for the new file to load itself and the change to take effect. No need to restart your game progress, just the executable.

If you don't have framerate issues (I do, but it only occurs when a T3 Base explodes with 4-6 ships flying around) what exactly does this do? Like does it remove a feature from the game to make it work?

It doesn't remove anything, all it does is tell the game not to refresh and render stuff quite as often, cutting down the amount of processing your computer needs to do to run the game. I've noticed a slight increase in performance and haven't noticed any major freezing or stuttering, which I was getting now and then during larger battles.

Yup all it does is tell the render system not to try to render so much. So instead of trying to render 60fps, it does 30. This gives about a 20% performance boost on my machine and should be just enough headroom to resolve some of the nastier situations. All the physics etc is still going on at 60, we just skip every second render call.

Perhaps this file could be expanded into an adjustable FPS cap in the game's settings? ;D

Just some curiosity.

Were there any changes between the posted radar.cs.dso and the current radar.cs.dso? (you know between 1.506 & 1.600)
(besides of course the 60 to 30 fps rendering change)

I haven't tried this before, so I have no references.

I don't believe so. Radar.cs is a rarely changed file. I think that is why i chose it :)

I'm having a headache looking for game directory you've been talking about, I've already downloaded the file, but I'm still looking for the directory, can you point out where I should place this? I haven't seen any directory that has a 'radar.cs.dso' that I can replace.

I'm using Vista. I just downloaded the game 2 days ago, and I'm in the middle of chapter 3, and I can't stand the very low framerates during large battles, so I'm trying to find a solution to the low framerate, sound is good, but the framerate seems to be struggling on catching up with the sound.

Any help would be good. :)

Some questions for you:
- 32bit or 64bit?
- Where did you bought the game from? (steam? SPAZ site? Somewhere else?)

The answer will determine in one way or another the exact location of the SPAZ install.

32bit, and I bought it from Steam.
Also, I know the location: C:\Users\Myname\AppData\Roaming\MinMaxGames\SpacePiratesAndZombies
But I'm still confused, because I can't see any 'Radar.cs.dso' that's there that I have to replace.

OK. I'll now be assuming you've installed steam itself into it's Default location.

Which means SPAZ is in.
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\space pirates and zombies\

You'll be then needing to open up the \game and then \gameScripts folders and place Radar.cs.dso there and replace the existing one.

Is this still the case between 1.600 vs 1.605 (and later patches?)?
Wasn't there also an edited "canvas.cs.dso" (somewhere) that could assist with better framerates/CPU use?
And what is IT'S status.
Could these files maybe help in issues regarding the other platforms? (doubtful, but possible)
