Unfortunately, that didn't work for me.

Here's my latest console.log

Hi Dr.

Looking at the log fine, it looks like it is still booting you in OpenGL. We would expect to see: Renderer: DirectX instead of Renderer: ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series if this has been successful. You will need to delete your b_settings dir, and have this new canvas file in place at the same time. That will force the game into D3D. Once you get the main menu up, you will also need to select directX compatibility mode.

b_settings is in:

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\ApplicationData\MinMaxGames\SpacePiratesAndZombies\

Win7/Vista:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\MinMaxGames\SpacePiratesAndZombies\

I'm going to go out on a limb and say me not having a "MinMaxGames" folder in my Roaming directory would be a bad thing, yes?

(Excuse me while I try reinstalling again)

OK, the game has been re-installed.
I still don't see a "MinMaxGames" folder in "Roaming"

and a File search didn't turn up anything when I went looking for the b_settings on my own.

Could this maybe have something to do with this being the Steam version of the game?

I don't think its the steam version that causes the problem. Me and some friends got the game on steam and noone had any problems with savegames. We all have the MinMaxGames folder in our Roaming directory.

It is ok that there is no MinMaxGames dir. That is actually just made the first time it makes a settings file. so the settings file does not exist.

The console.log file does not show that you are in DirectX mode so all i can assume is that the canvas.cs.dso file was not placed in the right place. Did you unzip the file and have to replace the old file? It is important that the file is replaced. It is in the common directory tree as seen from the spazgame.exe location.

Good Morning Blorfy

Yes, prior to unzipping, I renamed the old canvas file, and dropped the new one in to the same directory as a replacement.

( C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\space pirates and zombies\common\gameScripts )

Looking at the console.log, It is detecting both a D3D and OpenGL capable card. Can you please try the above steps again and send the new console.log. The game is definitely in OpenGL mode when it should not be possible with the changes in the canvas.cs file. I will show you what to look for.

Video Init:
Accelerated OpenGL display device detected.
Accelerated D3D device detected.

Activating the OpenGL display device...
Activating the OpenGL display device...
Setting screen mode to 640x480x32 (w)...
Creating a new window...
Acquiring a new device context...
Pixel format set:
32 color bits, 24 depth bits, 8 stencil bits
Creating a new rendering context...
Making the new rendering context current...
OpenGL driver information:
Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
Renderer: ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series
Version: 3.3.10907 Compatibility Profile Context

Where it says Renderer: ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series We want it to say DirectX 1

Good Evening Blorfy,

You saying that the log file was referencing both video cards got me thinking... so I disabled my crossfire (instead of repeating the above instructions),and when I tried relaunching the game it worked!

Here's the console.log

Hey guys, I'm having a very similar issue, as the game instantly crashes on startup.

I recently updated all my video drivers and Catalyst to the latest versions, but no difference. I have downloaded the canvas.cs.dso but upon looking into my steam folder for SPAZ, I found that there is no canvas file already there?

This is probably down to my mistake or stupidity but just in case, where exactly does the file go?

If it helps I'm running on an HD 5xxx series card with an AMD quad-core CPU (Windows 7 64-bit OS)

Been looking forward to this game for a while, only just seen a glimmer of hope that my issue can be solved

Panda :)

Sorry for the trouble Panda,

Can you post your console.log file? It is located with SpazGame.exe

I will take a look and we may be able to figure out what's up.

Thanks for the quick reply, here's my console.log :)

This game looks really promising so far, shame I fell at the first obstacle.

Would it be possible for you to downgrade the the previous Catalyst drivers? I got an email last night that this helped another user. Also, if this is a laptop, disabling dynamic gfx switching may be required. A dxdDiag may also help.

Thanks again! It's desktop but I'll definitely try to downgrade my drivers and run a DxDiag as soon as possible, thanks :)

Can you please add a dxdiag file? Have you tried upgrading your drivers? Also if you get the launcher screen? I don't think you do, but just asking for clarity.

I have a similar issue. Keep receiving "Spaz required OpenGL. Please install latest graphics drivers". I have done so but keep getting the same issue. Using the Steam SPAZ version. I suspect it isnt starting up by using my 6770 graphic rather then the integrated card.

Attached my DxDiag and console.log files. Any help would be appreciated =)

@ Crozius: From what I can see in the DxDiag it is your System that's using the integrated graphics.
And therefor not telling SPAZ you have better.

You need to set somewhere in BIOS or video settings to use the other display device as standard device and hope it's done right.

I just bought this game from the Humble Bundle. I am looking forward to playing this and the game just crashed on me without even starting up. I loaded steam and pressed "play" and it crashed with the message "TorqueGameBuilder has stopped working". Attached is my console.log, please help me out.
