I used to be able to play SPAZ until I switched to having my computer be part of a domain. The domain has "Folder Redirection" rules which make my "AppData", "Documents", etc redirected to a network path.

For example, when I browse to the save-game folder and copy the path, it says:
C:\Users\Bob\AppData\Roaming\MinMaxGames\SpacePiratesAndZombies

But really, behind the scenes it is:
\\MyServer\UserData\Bob\AppData\Roaming\MinMaxGames\SpacePiratesAndZombies

There also may be a "junction" connection between "Roaming" and "MinMaxGames", but that wasn't an issue in the past.

Now, when I go into the game, it will save games, and save settings (I see the timestamps being modified in the b_save folder), but when I try to load a saved game (or have persistent settings), nothing shows up. I'm always ending up using default settings and having to start over. Unfortunately the game is too long to play in one sit-down session, and I'd rather not keep it on in the background.

Is there a different way you can browse the contents of the save-game folder?

Hmm ...

That's a tricky one. Our engine is a bit old, so it's often unaware of unusual configurations. I'll move you to tech support to see what can be done for you.

Okay. Thanks. I ended up trying to just delete the AppData/Roaming/MinMaxGames directory structure and put it back together, and now the game doesn't even write saves anymore. I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling.

Hmm, sorry that this has become a problem. Is there any way to install SPAZ outside of the redirected folder scheme? The engine won't understand it unfortunately. I am thinking of adding an override option to the save path so you could say something like c:\mySpazSaves\ or something, but that would have to be a part of the next release since it will require exe changes and repackaging etc.

Yeah, if there were a command-line option for a different location, I could have steam send it a different path.
